Our Company and Focus. Weathervane Labs, LLC dba Weathervane, a Minnesota limited liability company (referred to in this Privacy Policy as “Weathervane®” or “we” and through similar words such as “us,” “our,” etc.) researches, develops, distributes software products and services that deliver personal weather intelligence to users in the United States. Personal weather intelligence is weather decision support customized and adaptive to individuals. We tailor this information by combining weather data with your characteristics, preferences, and experiences to predict how you will feel outside so that you can make better decisions with less effort.
Our Privacy Commitment. Personalization is an ongoing process of customizing a product or service to the needs of a specific person or group. This naturally involves personal information. As a company that values privacy, we demonstrate respect for personal data through transparent policies, security measures, and user control. We are users of our products too and handle your personal information the way we want our own personal information to be treated.
About this Policy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share personal information, as well as the rights and choices you have about your privacy. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into our Terms of Service by reference. The Terms of Service are located at www.weathervane.io/terms.
Your Agreement. Weathervane® encourages customers, visitors, business associates, and other interested parties to read this Privacy Policy, which applies to all users. By using our Service or submitting personal information to Weathervane® by any other means, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy, and agree that Weathervane® may collect, process, transfer, use, and disclose your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. Further, by accessing any part of the Service, you are agreeing to THE TERMS OF OUR TERMS OF SERVICE (the “Terms of Service”). 1. What personal information does Weathervane collect?
Personal information—also commonly known as personally identifiable information or PII or personal data—is information that can be used to identify you, or any other individual to whom the information may relate.
The personal information that we collect directly from those using the Service includes the following categories:
- Name and contact information (e.g., nickname, email address, phone number);
- Information provided by you when using interactive features of the Service, including but not limited to, behavioral data, environmental data, device data, usage data, user preferences, and research study data;
- Information in the subsections below, including “Information we collect automatically,” to the extent such information is defined as personal information under the laws of a particular jurisdiction;
- Other information that may be exchanged while engaging with the Service. You will be aware of any subsequently collected information because it will come directly from you.
Not all information included here is required to use all parts of the Service and you will be informed when disclosure of certain data is voluntary. Note that we do not track your device location while you are not using the Service. Please also note that certain information you provide may be publicly visible to other users.
When you make a payment as part of using the Weathervane® Service, you may provide payment information such as your payment card or other payment details. We use third-party payment services, and we do not store your credit card information.
Where required by law, your explicit consent to collection, processing, or transferring of certain sensitive personal data will be obtained. Appropriate security and protection measures will be deployed that will be congruent with the nature and risks associated with the data and processing activities.
In addition, certain information collected here including “User Generated Content” may be anonymized and retained by Weathervane® as described in the section “How does Weathervane® protect personal information?”
User Content. Weathervane® may allow you to post content on the Service, including content relating to reviews of the Service and any other information that you would like to be available on the Service, which may also become public (“User Content”).
If you post User Content, all of the information that you post will be available to authorized personnel of Weathervane® and may be made available to the public at our discretion. You expressly acknowledge and agree that we may access in real-time, record, and store archives of any User Content on our servers to make use of them in connection with the Service. If you submit a review, recommendation, endorsement, or other User Content through the Service, or through other websites including Facebook, Instagram, Google, app stores, and other similar channels, we may share that review, recommendation, endorsement, or content publicly on the Service.
2. How does Weathervane collect personal information?
Weathervane® collects personal information through several channels, always with transparency about what we're collecting and why. We primarily collect information directly from you when you use our services, though we also gather certain data automatically to improve functionality and user experience. In limited cases, we may receive information from third parties.
2.1. Information you actively provide
When providing personal information to Weathervane® as described in this Privacy Policy, that personal information is primarily collected directly from you, and you will know the precise personal information being collected by us or our third-party payment processor partners.
2.2. Information we collect automatically
Weathervane® does not typically collect personal information from any other sources, except where it may automatically be collected as described in this subsection, if and to the extent the information is considered personal information.
Device Data. When you use our Service, we may record unique identifiers associated with your device (such as the device ID and IP address), your activity within the Service, and your network location. Weathervane® uses aggregated information (such as anonymous user usage information, cookies, IP addresses, browser type, clickstream information, etc.) to improve the quality and design of the Service and to create new features, promotions, functionality, and services by storing, tracking, and analyzing user preferences and trends. Specifically, we may automatically collect the following information about your use of Service through cookies, web beacons, and other technologies:
- Domain name
- Browser or device type and operating system
- Web pages you view
- Links you click
- IP address
- The length of time you visit the Service
- The referring URL or the webpage that led you to the sites
We may also collect information regarding application-level events, such as crashes, and associate that temporarily with your account to provide customer service. In some circumstances, we may combine this information with personal information collected from you (and third-party service providers may do so on behalf of us).
Cookies. We may use "cookies," clear gifs, and log file information that help us determine the type of content and pages to which you link, the length of time you spend at any particular area of the Service and the portion of the Service you choose to use. A cookie is a small text file that is sent by a website to your computer or mobile device where it is stored by your web browser. A cookie contains limited information, usually a unique identifier and the name of the site. Your browser has options to accept, reject or provide you with notice when a cookie is sent. Our cookies do not execute any code or virus, and they do not contain any personal information. Cookies allow Weathervane® to serve you better and more efficiently, and to personalize your experience with the Service. We may use cookies for many purposes, including (without limitation) to save your password so you don’t have to re-enter it each time you visit the Service, and to deliver content (which may include third party advertisements) specific to your interests.
We may use third party service providers to help us analyze certain online activities. For example, these service providers may help us measure the performance of the Service. We may permit these service providers to use cookies and other technologies to perform these services for Weathervane®. We do not share any personal information about our customers with these third-party service providers.
2.3. Information we receive from others
In certain limited circumstances, third-party service providers may collect information on behalf of Weathervane®, though such collection will always be within the context of the Service. Weathervane® may also automatically collect certain information as described in this Section if and to the extent the information is considered personal information. We may collect personal and non-personal information through the following additional channels:

3. How does Weathervane use personal information?
Weathervane® does not sell, re-sell, or distribute for re-sale your personal information. Subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy, Weathervane® uses the above-described categories of personal information in several ways. Unless otherwise stated specifically, the above information may be used for any of the following purposes:
3.1. To provide and improve the services
Weathervane® uses your personal information to deliver our core service: personal weather intelligence. This includes processing and delivering weather data associated with your reported location, managing technical functionality, and ensuring reliable service delivery. We use device data and technical information to optimize app performance across different platforms and troubleshoot technical issues. Your usage patterns and User Content help us identify and address service gaps, prioritize feature development, and make informed decisions about service enhancements.
3.2. To personalize your experience
We use personal information to provide tailored weather intelligence and deliver an experience specific to you and your decision-making needs. This includes generating and displaying thermal comfort predictions on a personalized dashboard and providing decision support tools to inform your choices around clothing, activities, and scheduling.
3.3. To communicate with you
We may communicate with you using email, SMS, push notifications, or calling machines as part of our effort to market our products or services, administer or improve our products or services, or for other reasons stated in this Privacy Policy. You may have an opportunity to withdraw consent to receive such direct marketing communications, as permitted by law.
We may also communicate with you to respond to your support requests, notify you about changes to our Terms of Service or this Privacy Policy, distribute communications relevant to your use of the Service, such as system updates or information about your use of the Service; and as may be necessary to support the operation of the Service, such as for billing, account maintenance, and recordkeeping purposes.
3.4. To maintain and secure services
Weathervane® uses your information to protect and maintain the integrity of our platform. This includes authenticating users, detecting suspicious activities, and preventing unauthorized access to accounts. We monitor service performance and usage patterns to identify and address potential security vulnerabilities or threats. Technical data helps us diagnose system issues, optimize infrastructure, and ensure stable operations. Account credentials and usage information enable us to enforce our Terms of Service and prevent abuse of our systems. These security measures are essential to protecting your privacy, safeguarding your data, and maintaining a reliable service.
3.5. For scientific research
To develop, evaluate, and improve our prediction algorithms and enhance user experience, we conduct formal research studies by designing work plans, enrolling participants with informed consent, collecting data, analyzing data in a de-identified or anonymized and aggregated format, and synthesizing results. Users can voluntarily enroll in and withdraw from specific research studies through the Research tab in their profile. The impact of these studies extends from basic service improvements to broader scientific contributions regarding our understanding of how environmental conditions affect human comfort and how individual responses affect adaptability. Research findings may be published in academic or scientific contexts to advance knowledge while maintaining participant privacy.
3.6. For legal purposes
Weathervane® may use your personal information to carry out our obligations and enforce rights arising from any contracts between you and Weathervane®. We may also process your information to comply with our legal obligations, including meeting regulatory compliance requirements, responding to subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes. Additionally, your information may be used to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims. We may also process your data to detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions or other illegal activities, and to protect the rights, property, or safety of Weathervane® and our users. Your personal information may be used as otherwise required by applicable law, regulation, or legal process.
4. How does Weathervane protect personal information?
There are certain instances in which Weathervane® shares your information with third parties to enable delivery of the Services:
4.1. With service providers
We may provide any of the described categories of personal information to Weathervane® employees, consultants, affiliates, or other businesses or persons for the purpose of processing such information on our behalf in order to provide the Service to you. In such circumstances, we require that these parties agree to protect the confidentiality of such information consistent with the terms of this Privacy Policy. Third parties receiving personal information may include:
- Third-party vendors or service providers providing crucial services and necessary to provide the Service;
- Business partners, contractors, channel partners or other affiliated entities;
- Government agencies or other parties in response to legal process or other requests, where permitted by law.
4.2. For legal requirements
We may release personal information: (i) to the extent we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with any applicable law; (ii) to enforce any provision of the Terms of Service, protect ourselves against any liability, defend ourselves against any claims, protect the rights, property and personal safety of any user, or protect the public welfare; (iii) when disclosure is required to maintain the security and integrity of the Service, or to protect any user’s security or the security of other persons, consistent with applicable laws; (iv) to respond to a court order, subpoena, search warrant, or other legal process, to the extent permitted and as restricted by law.
4.3. During business transfers
In the event that we go through a business transition, such as a securities offering, merger, divestiture, acquisition, bankruptcy, reorganization, liquidation or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as a business asset to be used for any purpose allowed under the Terms of Service.
4.4. With your consent
We will not share your personal information with other, third-party companies for their commercial or marketing use without your consent or except as part of a specific program or feature for which you will have the ability to opt-in or opt-out.
5. How does Weathervane share personal information?
Security Measures. We utilize security measures designed to protect the security of all information submitted through the Service. However, the security of information transmitted through the internet or via a mobile device can never be guaranteed. We are not responsible for any interception or interruption of any communications through the internet or for changes to or losses of data.
User Responsibility. As a user you are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials (e.g. email address and password) or other form of authentication involved in obtaining access to password protected or secure areas of the Service. In order to protect you and your information, we may suspend your use of any of the Service, without notice, pending an investigation, if any breach of security is suspected.
Data Retention. Weathervane® will retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use personal information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes and enforce our legal agreements and policies. To determine the appropriate retention period for your personal information, we will consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your personal information, the purposes for which we use your personal information and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal requirements.
Weathervane® will also retain usage data for internal analysis purposes. Usage data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of our Service, or we are legally obligated to retain this data for longer periods.
International Transfers. Weathervane® offers its products and services in the United States of America only. If you are located outside the United States, in particular, if you are located in Canada, Brazil, the European Union (“EU”), the European Economic Area (“EEA”), New Zealand, the Republic of South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or other countries with similar data privacy laws, please note that we and our servers are located in the United States. Any information that you provide to us may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries around the world where we do business. Although this may include recipients of information located in countries where there may be a lower level of legal protection for your personal information than in your country, we will make efforts to protect your information in accordance with requirements applicable to the law in your particular jurisdiction and take steps to only share with third parties that offer similar protection. By using our Service, you unambiguously consent to your information being collected, processed, used and transferred as disclosed herein.
Children’s Privacy. At this time, the Service is not intended for individuals under the age of 18, and by using the Service you are explicitly affirming you are at least 18 years old. Weathervane® does not knowingly collect the personal information of children under the age of 13. If you believe that Weathervane® might have information from or about a child under the age of 13, please contact us at support@weathervane.io.
6. What are my privacy rights and choices?
6.1. How to access, update, and request information
You can view, update, and request your personal information directly through the user profile in the Weathervane® app. You may request a complete copy of your data once every 30 days. Once processed, Weathervane will follow up via email allowing you to download your data in a structured and readable format.
6.2. How to delete your account
You can delete your account directly through the user profile in the Weathervane® app. Initiating account deletion permanently removes your user profile and all personal information associated with it not already contributed to a research study. Any de-identified research data you have previously contributed will be anonymized and retained as permitted by law and as explained in our informed consent forms.
6.3. How to control communications
If you no longer wish to receive marketing correspondence, emails, or other communications from us, you may opt-out by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of emails from Weathervane® or by submitting a request to support@weathervane.io.
Please note that you will not be able to opt-out of all communication from Weathervane®. In particular, where we must share transactional or other critical, non-marketing communication with you, you may not have the option to opt-out.
We may use third party marketing providers to market or promote our products and services. If you no longer wish to receive emails, SMSs, or other communications from such third parties, you are responsible for contacting the third party directly.
6.4. How to manage privacy
You can manage your privacy directly by not including personally identifiable information in your email address or nickname and by limiting the personal information you enter in the app. Additionally, you can review and adjust your location sharing preferences in your device settings and within the Weathervane® app user profile.
6.5. State-specific rights
Depending on the state in which you reside, you may have certain privacy rights regarding your personal data. Please note, however, that depending on where you reside, your relationship with Weathervane®, and/or the way in which Weathervane® is regulated in your state of residence, you may not have the opportunity to avail yourself of all the privacy rights listed here or available to you under the law. If you would like to exercise your legal rights, please contact us at support@weathervane.io. We will process your request in accordance with any applicable legal requirements.
California Shine the Light Law. We do not disclose Personal Data (referred to as “personal information” under certain state laws, including California and Nevada) obtained through our Service to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. Accordingly, we have no obligations under California Civil Code § 1798.83.
California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). All users consent to our data collection by using the App and/or the Website. All users provide consent to generic data collection by creating an account and using the App. Also, all users provide consent to personal data collection by documenting their informed consent for participation in voluntary research studies. Every user may manage their data through the App, which allows the user to view and/or delete generic and personal information associated with their account.
Notice to Nevada Residents. Nevada law allows Nevada residents to opt-out of the sale of certain types of Personal Data. Subject to a number of exceptions, Nevada law defines “sale” to mean the exchange of certain types of Personal Data for monetary consideration to another person. We do not currently sell Personal Data as defined in the Nevada law. However, if you are a Nevada resident, you still may submit a verified request to opt-out of sales and we will record your instructions and incorporate them in the future if our policy changes. Opt-out requests for these purposes may be sent to support@weathervane.io.
7. Additional information
External Links. The Service may contain links to other websites maintained by third parties. Please be aware that we exercise no control over linked sites, and Weathervane® is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such sites. Each linked site maintains its own independent privacy and data collection policies and procedures, and you are encouraged to view the privacy policies of these other sites before providing any personal information.
You hereby acknowledge and agree that Weathervane® is not responsible for the privacy practices, data collection policies and procedures or the content of such third-party sites, and you hereby release Weathervane® from any and all claims arising out of or related to the privacy practices, data collection policies and procedures and/or the content of such third-party sites.
Connecting the Service with other Smart Devices. You may be permitted to connect certain smart devices with the Service. To connect the Service to your device, you will be required to consent to such connection through your applicable application store. Weathervane® does not have access to the data your device collects, and you should review the privacy notices or terms associated with such devices for specific information about the data sharing.
Changes to this Privacy Policy. Weathervane® reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy from time to time in order that it accurately reflects the regulatory environment and our data collection principles. When material changes are made to this Privacy Policy, Weathervane® will post the revised Privacy Policy on our website. This Privacy Policy was last modified as of the date displayed at the top of this Privacy Policy.
